The Vegetable Garden Season Begins

You don’t have to wait until the last average frost date in your area to start a vegetable garden outdoors. As soon as the ground can be worked, onions, peas and spinachcan be added to your garden. If you are going to grow your own onion seedlings, start them indoors approximately eight weeks before transplanting time. Onions sets, which are small onion bulbs, can also be purchased for planting. Peas should be directly seeded in your garden and do best with support from a trellis or other structure. Read more »

Urban survival course allows Winnipeggers to prepare for the apocalypse

WINNIPEG — In a makeshift classroom on the main floor of a housing co-op, 10 ordinary-looking Winnipeggers settled into two rows of seats, placed notebooks on their laps, and began preparing for the apocalypse.

Well, perhaps not the apocalypse, in the Judaeo-Christian sense of the term. In another sign that survivalism has entered the cultural mainstream, two Manitoba wilderness educators have started offering city dwellers a class on how to prepare for the disastrous aftermath of a catastrophic natural disaster or some unprecedented form of civil unrest.  Read more »

New Survival Downloads You Must Have and Print

For some time now I have had the download section on the site. It is time to update it and add new content. So I have scoured the Internet and my resources and have found what I consider the must have manuals and books that you should download, read and print out in case of  technology failing.
